Catalog description
This course examines the cultural dimensions of conflict in diverse, multicultural settings, with particular emphasis on the nature and sources of cross-cultural conflicts, processes of escalation and de-escalation and influence of power disparities. It explores strategies for managing and resolving cross-cultural conflicts, while encouraging students to reflect on their own cultural assumptions and how these shape their responses to conflict. Students also work to expand their awareness and capacity for cross-cultural conflict resolution. Case analyses and experiential learning exercises highlight approaches that are respectful of the diverse cultural values of the parties involved.
