COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING

Catalog description

Course presents concepts of community health nursing with an emphasis on health protection, promotion and prevention of population-based health problems. This course integrates concepts to prepare students to deliver culturally congruent care. Students gain insight into the health problems facing diverse, vulnerable populations; they explore those populations’ social determinants of health. Students use an epidemiologic approach to assess community health and identify aggregates within a community that are at risk for disease, disability and premature death. Concepts covered throughout this course are applied locally (town, county, state and country) and globally. Students must be admitted to the Professional Nursing Sequence to be able to register for this course. Students are responsible for their transportation to field experience.
