HEALTH CARE POLICY FOR THE B.S.N. NURSE

This course looks at the organizational and societal context in which health care is delivered in the United States. The course is a comprehensive introduction to health policy that prepares students to participate in eliminating health inequity through the application of the policy process and advocacy skills beyond the bedside. It focuses on the role of the nurse in advocating for individuals using effective professional written and oral communication at the organizational, state and federal levels. The course explores the distinction between regulations, laws and policies through the exploration of contemporary and historical health policy considerations that impact the cost and quality of and access to healthcare. The course emphasizes the use of various professional and public resources and evidence from the nursing profession to inform policy.
