Catalog description
Advanced study of and practice with instrumental and choral conducting, guiding general music environments and leadership of K-12 music classrooms and related settings. Skills and knowledge include conducting gesture, running rehearsals, score study and arranging, working with groups of students, understanding the young mindset of school-based musical groups, listening and responding to musical activities and navigating musical experiences in schools. The course includes additional work with leading groups other than secondary choral and instrumental groups, such as elementary ensembles, modern bands, non-Western ensembles and other ensemble leadership that falls outside of traditional band, orchestra and choir models.
