Catalog description

This course is the first of a two-part sequence and provides a pathway for successful completion of MATH 10041 during the subsequent semester. Topics include graphical displays of data, measures of center and variation, linear regression and basic probability. In the context of these statistical concepts, students review basic arithmetic and algebra skills needed to succeed in MATH 10041 , including computations and applications of percents and decimals, fractions, proportions, linear equations, areas of geometric figures, slope and intercepts. The development of study strategies, problem-solving skills and reading skills are interwoven throughout the semester. This course is different than basic algebra courses and MATH 10041 because it develops students' fluency within the context of statistical situations and does not cover all topics required in the TMM-011, nor does it cover them in depth. Emphasis is on skill development and foreshadowing statistical concepts through intuitive and informal development.
