Catalog description

This course focuses on the major political, economic and cultural trends that have defined the United States since 1980. Topics include the Reagan Revolution and its consequences; the changing legacy of the Vietnam War; the emergence of AIDS as a serious public health crisis; challenges posed by the end of the Cold War and Global War on Terror; and the emergence of domestic culture wars and widening political divisions. Thematically, the course addresses the effects of globalization, immigration and political shifts on American national identity.
