Catalog description
This is an engineering-level mechanics course about static equilibrium. Topics include the analysis of particles and rigid bodies in equilibrium, free-body diagrams, distributed forces, moments and couples, trusses, frames, machines, internal forces in structural members and shear and moment diagrams. The course prepares students for ENGR 25400 and ENGR 42111 by covering the additional topics of centroids, centers of gravity and moments of inertia. Students develop proficiency in applying vector algebra and calculus to solve static equilibrium problems in both two and three dimensions.
