(Slashed with CS 53203 ) This course provides an in-depth exploration of the Unix/Linux operating system's structure while teaching students how to write system and network programs. It is ideal for those interested in developing system software for Unix/Linux or gaining a deeper understanding of a multi-tasking, multi-user operating system. The course covers key topics, including the file system, terminal and device input/output, multi-tasking, inter-process communication, video display management and network programming. Theoretical concepts are integrated with practical examples of how Unix implements them. By the end of the course, students have the skills to understand how most Unix commands function and are capable of drafting their own versions of many common commands.
