Provides an overview of the fundamental biological targets for bioanalytical assays, such as lipids, peptides, proteins, nucleic acids and cells. Briefly introduces traditional tools, such as chromatography, electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, fluorescence techniques, immunoassays, and biosensors. Discusses approaches most recently developed in the field, which include lab-on-a-chip and single molecule techniques.
