PHILOSOPHY OF ART AND BEAUTY (ELR)      3 Credit Hours

Catalog description

Course investigates concepts such as the artistic object and creative expression, and examines and critiques a range of theories designed to solve various problems in the field of aesthetics (the study of the nature and principles of art and beauty). Examples drawn from diverse genres such as the visual arts, drama, music and dance provide the context for discussions of topics including what makes something beautiful and what is involved in an act of creativity. Students with junior standing or above, who have not taken a Philosophy (PHIL) course, should contact the department for a prerequisite override.
