Catalog description
The discovery and development of a new drug can take more than a decade, with costs exceeding one billion dollars. Effective early-stage drug discovery increases the likelihood of successfully demonstrating efficacy and safety later on during clinical trials. This course covers the preclinical phase of the small molecule drug discovery process from selection and validation of the therapeutic target to identification, characterization, and validation of lead drug candidates, up to IND filing. The course will discuss both traditional high throughput and more advanced high content screening methods, use of genetically engineered 3D cell culture models systems, as well as the use of computational tools and artificial intelligence in drug target characterization, rational drug design, and prediction of pharmacokinetics and toxicology.
