Pharmacy & Therapeutics: Evidence, Economics, and the AMCP Competition

Catalog description
This elective course introduces students to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) formulary process employed as a quality, safety and management tool by health plans, medical groups, and hospitals. Students will gain exposure to P&T topics from lectures including how to evaluate scientific evidence and cost-effective analysis. Student pharmacists enrolled in this course will gain experience in writing a P&T monograph and presenting a medication to a mock P&T Committee. They will have the opportunity to participate in the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) National Student Pharmacist P&T Competition. Students develop competencies in formulary management, clinical evidence evaluation, and pharmacoeconomic analysis through lectures, workshops, and a semester-long team project.
