Chronic and Infectious Diseases in Community Health

Catalog description

This course provides an integrated examination of chronic and infectious diseases within community health systems. Students analyze epidemiologic principles, disease classification, surveillance systems, screening programs, prevention strategies, social determinants of health, and policy frameworks that influence disease burden. Rather than studying communicable and non-communicable diseases separately, the course applies shared population health frameworks to examine risk structures, transmission and progression patterns, prevention models, and system-level responses. Emphasis is placed on health equity, community engagement, resource allocation, and administrative decision-making relevant to healthcare leaders. Students apply epidemiologic and systems-based approaches to evaluate disease management strategies and develop comprehensive community health improvement plans.
