Catalog description
This course provides an introduction to bioinformatics, emphasizing sequence analysis. By the end of the course, students will comprehend the role of bioinformatics in addressing both hypothesis-driven and hypothesis-generating questions within the life sciences. Covered topics include various algorithms for sequence alignment and deriving biological insights from them. Additionally, the course goes beyond mere sequence comparisons to explore certain aspects of proteomics. A substantial coding component is incorporated into the curriculum, allowing students to experience the process of building a software tool from scratch, given that it is a project-oriented class.
