SOCIAL WELFARE POLICY II

Catalog description

Building on foundation knowledge about the development of social welfare policy in the United States and issues of inequality nationally and globally, this course emphasizes the role of policy advocacy in social work practice to promote social and economic justice. A major focus is on evaluating the intended and unintended impacts of social policies on populations at risks, and on the overall service delivery system. Avenues for changing social policy to promote social and economic justice are explored. The values and ethical dilemmas inherent in working with trauma survivors in such areas of immigration, refugees and human trafficking. Thus, students will build on their advanced generalist practice knowledge to advocate for social and economic justice issues from a systemic and global perspective. Finally, students will have the opportunity to develop a self-care plan in the development of their professional use of self.
