This course involves study of the development of meaningful representation in young children, including visual and alphabetic literacy, written and numeric symbols. the emergent use and understanding of literacy is studied. Teacher candidates will examine materials and methods appropriate for promoting and assessing symbol development in young children. (Previously NJCU Course SPEC-621)
