Catalog description

This course focuses on skills and knowledge that help protect and strengthen families in society. The course is focused around three themes: (1) The history, mission, and scope of child welfare policies, services, and practice, including the underlying philosophy, values, and culture; (2) Assessment of neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse, family strengths, and challenges to well-being; (3) Case planning, intervention, and evaluation when working with families, including interviewing skills and integrating the use of professional authority to promote safety and well-being.
