Catalog description

This course builds upon students' prior knowledge of the principles and practices of psychosocial rehabilitation. The focus of the course is on needs assessment, coordination, and negotiation of the various community resources utilized by people who have severe mental illnesses. Students will learn what types of services and supports are available, as well as how to assist consumers in obtaining the resources that they need and want. By the end of the semester students will be familiar with the various functions and models of case management. They will also have gained insight into why community service systems are so disjointed and which strategies are most successful in negotiating these systems.
