Catalog description

This is the first course in a two semester series desgined to provide students with an understanding of pharmacology and the therapeutics of the major drug classes. This course will follow the modules presented in Clinical Medicine 1 and 2 and will address the pharmacologic treatment of dermatologic, cardiac, pulmonary, gastric and pyschiatric disorders. Emphasis is placed on the practical application and evaluation of drug actions on the functions of various organ systems of the human body. Discussion of pharmacoldnetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenetics and clinical therapeutics within the context of providing safe and effective pharmacologic treatment of diseases will occur. Practical experience with case presentations and medication prescribing is provided. Federal regulations governing drug development, drug schedules, drug safety and legislation are included
