DIAGNOSTIC METHODS II

Catalog description

Diagnostic Methods II builds upon foundational principles of diagnostic test selection, interpretation, and clinical reasoning introduced in Diagnostic Methods I, with a focused emphasis on cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and infectious disease presentations. This course advances students’ application of evidence-based screening guidelines, laboratory and imaging utilization, and recognition of urgent findings, system-specific limitations, and sources of diagnostic error. Through case-based learning, simulation, and guided literature appraisal, students refine skills in integrating diagnostic data with patient history and physical examination findings to strengthen differential diagnoses, risk stratification, and clinical decision-making. The course further emphasizes diagnostic stewardship, cost-effectiveness, radiation safety, and risk–benefit analysis to promote high-value, patient-centered care and prepare students for increasing clinical responsibility within the didactic and clinical curriculum.
