Catalog description

Diagnostic Methods I introduces students to principles of diagnostic test selection, interpretation, and clinical reasoning in the evaluation of HEENT, dermatologic, psychiatric, and genetic conditions. This course emphasizes evidence-based screening guidelines, appropriate use of laboratory and imaging studies, and recognition of diagnostic limitations and sources of error. Through case-based learning, simulation, and guided literature appraisal, students develop skills in integrating diagnostic data with patient history and physical examination findings to refine differential diagnoses and inform clinical decision-making. The course also incorporates diagnostic stewardship, cost-effectiveness, and risk–benefit analysis to promote high-value, patient-centered care and prepare students for progressive clinical practice.
