Catalog description

This course examines the unique strengths, challenges, and instructional considerations of teaching music in urban, suburban, and rural K–12 school settings. Students will explore how geography, community resources, cultural influences, access to arts experiences, and school structures shape music teaching and learning. Emphasis is placed on culturally sustaining pedagogy, equity, community engagement, and adapting instructional approaches across diverse educational contexts. Through case studies, field reflections, and practical applications, students will develop flexible and informed strategies for successful teaching in all school environments.
