Catalog description

An examination of changes and continuities in the making of modern Cuba. Emphasis on the colonial experience under Spanish rule, the neo-colonial relation with the United States during the first half of the 20th century, the consolidation and crisis of contemporary Socialist Cuba. Special attention to issues such as the dominant role of sugar in Cuban economic and social history, race relations, and national identity. Formerly: Cuba and the Modern World.
