Catalog description

The historical, present-day and future directions of the physical therapy profession are explored, as well as the role of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), state and federal regulations, and other regulatory agencies in influencing professional practice. Students will be exposed to an overview of health care and health care delivery in the United States, as well as relevant concepts related to current health care changes and reform. The scope of Physical Therapy practiced and practice settings are examined to develop an understanding of the impact of health care finances and reform on the role of physical therapists and physical therapy practice in each setting. Students will understand identified health care priorities and disparities on the national and local level, as the interdisciplinary role that physical therapists play in addressing them.
