PHYSICAL THERAPY MANAGEMENT OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM II

Catalog description

This course is a continuation of DPT 6150 . Building on the foundational knowledge and clinical reasoning developed in DPT6150, this course continues to prepare physical therapy clinicians to manage pertinent neuromuscular system disorders (including manifestations in other body systems), irrespective of medical diagnosis, and to function in today’s practice climate. Utilizing a modified problem-based approach, this course will further explore the examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care for adults and children with neuromuscular system dysfunction. Students will deepen their integration of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology concepts with normal skill acquisition and movement control, enhancing their understanding of movement dysfunction in patients with neurological disease. Continued emphasis will be placed upon a holistic view of the patient and family/caregivers, critical thinking skills, and competent performance of examination and intervention approaches. This course also reinforces the importance of peer-reviewed evidence in guiding clinical decision making for the management of neuromuscular dysfunction.
