Catalog description
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of trial advocacy skills and processes within the American Criminal Justice System. Particular attention is devoted to the various roles played by key participants including judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, witnesses, defendants and victims. The art of effective trial advocacy is demonstrated and practiced through numerous simulations including opening statements, direct and cross examination of witnesses, examination of expert witnesses, and summations. Students will form a team and compete against other universities in the American Mock Trial Association competition. (Previously NJCU Course CJ-307)
