Catalog description

Provides a non-technical understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their impacts on society. Explores the historical development of AI. Develops practical skills for ethical and effective use of AI tools in academic and professional settings through hands-on experience. Emphasizes critical evaluation of AI technologies through ethical frameworks, examining issues of bias, fairness, legal policy, and social impact. Analyzes AI as part of larger socio-technical systems shaped by human values, institutions, and incentives. Develops foundational security awareness around AI tools and data protection. Leverages AI-enhanced productivity tools for collaboration and decision-making. Lecture: 3 credits (45 contact hours).
