Catalog description

This is the third in a two-year series of courses delivered in OMS I and OMS II. During Physicianship III and IV, the organ system evaluations are revisited in conjunction with the system being covered in the clinical curriculum. Similar modalities employed throughout the first year are utilized here. History-taking and physical examination skills are enhanced through the introduction of advanced techniques incorporating the learners' developing recognition of physical findings. This course will also introduce students to the structure and function of the health care system and will create a foundation for establishing lifelong learning. The course will include topics in health policy, professionalism, research, and physician-patient relationships. Topics included are population health, interprofessional education, evidence-based medicine, research ethics, global health, epidemiology, and public health. The course will include an introduction to universal precautions and disease prevention. Basic elements of medical jurisprudence and medical informatics will be introduced.
