The Blood Banking elective offers medical students an immersive experience in the field of transfusion medicine and blood banking. This rotation focuses on the principles of blood component preparation, testing, and transfusion, as well as the management of blood products and their use in clinical practice. Students will engage with various aspects of blood banking, including donor screening, blood collection, laboratory testing, and the safe and effective administration of blood products. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the immunological basis of transfusion, managing transfusion reactions, and adhering to regulatory standards. Through hands-on experience and collaboration with experienced blood bank staff, students will develop the skills necessary to contribute to safe transfusion practices in patient care.
