Catalog description

The Endocrine System course is part of an integrated two-year curriculum for OMS 1 and OMS 2 students, which combines foundational medical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, embryology, biochemistry, histology, cell biology, genetics, and pathology. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the normal functions and regulatory mechanisms of the endocrine system and develops the skills necessary to identify, evaluate, and manage endocrine disorders. Building on foundational concepts introduced earlier in the curriculum, students examine the endocrine system in health and disease within the framework of osteopathic medicine. Instruction emphasizes active learning through flipped classroom sessions, case-based discussions, self-directed assignments, didactic lectures, and interactive clinical correlations. Students are expected to complete the assigned pre-class materials to fully engage in learning activities. The primary goal of the course is to cultivate essential knowledge of structure-function relationships, enabling students to differentiate health from disease in patients with endocrine disorders and develop clinical reasoning skills essential for patient care.
