Neuroscience & Assessment of Older Adults

Catalog description
This course examines normative and pathological brain changes associated with aging and their impact on cognitive, emotional, behavioral, social, and daily functioning in older adults. Emphasis is placed on using neuroscience of aging to inform psychological and neuropsychological assessment, including differentiation of normal versus pathological aging, appropriate selection and interpretation of assessment tools, and consideration of medical, contextual, and diversity factors. Ethical, legal, and interdisciplinary issues relevant to geropsychological assessment are addressed, along with effective communication of results and practical recommendations.
