Catalog description

Will review the basic principles of medical genetics and its application to clinical practice. Students will learn to obtain a detailed family history, and assess possible modes of inheritance. This involves the ability to understand the medical genetics literature, as well as the clinical application of genetic knowledge in the care of individual patients. Ethical principles related to genetic evaluation, testing, and diagnosis will be discussed. The underlying etiology, clinical presentation, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options of specific genetic disorders will be reviewed.
