Catalog description

A basic treatment of the pirates that modern people call vikings. Prejudices derived from old scholarly constructions of these people as savage warriors have produced distorted popular understandings of them. Discussion of what most historians now argue about the vikings in the Viking Age (c. 800-1100 AD). Careful attention to how the majority of historians have recently begun to recognize that the vikings operated in a global, rather than a simply western European, context.
