Urban Planning - Housing Policy and Planning

This course examines significant housing challenges in the United States and introduces various public sector interventions designed to address them. Federal, state, and local governments implement diverse strategies to achieve housing-related policy goals, including expanding affordability, improving housing quality, and promoting equitable access. Through critical analysis of existing programs and policies, students will investigate the objectives of these initiatives, their structure, and their effectiveness in meeting their goals. The course provides future planners with a solid foundation in U.S. housing policy and practical tools for evaluating and selecting appropriate housing strategies for public implementation. Additionally, students will gain experience in developing a housing market analysis profile. This course is offered at the 400 and 700 level with additional assignments at the 700 level. Not open to students with credit in UBPL 710.
