Catalog description

This course essentially provides an introduction to the profession of social work and the institution within which it operates: the social welfare system. This course is not a skills-based course; rather, its purpose is to make clear the influences and constraints that shape the profession--historical, social, cultural, political, and legal--and give it its uniqueness. This knowledge is essential to the education of the generalist social work practitioner, which is the central mission of the School. Must be completed with a grade of B or higher to advance in the Social Work curriculum. Satisfies: Goal 3 Social Sciences (GE3S) , Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS)
