Catalog description

This course is designed to enable novice teachers to master and apply instructional methods and practices that will facilitate appropriate and productive inclusion of children and youth with exceptionalities within general education classrooms and other school settings. Specific evidence-based strategies in literacy (Structured Literacy), mathematics, behavior supports, extensive supports, technology tools, and instructional design will be provided. Novice teachers will explore the Kansas IEP process, IDEA principles, and collaborative roles of general and special educators through applied activities that build understanding of effective instruction for students with high and low incidence disabilities. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program.
