This course examines education as a social institution and the reciprocal relationship between schools and society. It focuses particularly on the relationship between education and inequality and on education in the U.S., but also includes international comparisons. Prerequisite: Junior or Senior standing or permission of instructor. Satisfies: Goal 3 Social Sciences (GE3S)
