Political Science - Intro to Comparative Politics

Catalog description

This class explores different political systems around the world from democracies to authoritarian states and introduces students to the field of comparative politics: the comparative study of how politics shapes communities and political order around the world. We examine how variation in power and order can operate through the distinct political institutions and systems that communities create, leading to different patterns and outcomes within and across a broad range of political regimes. Among other important trends, we investigate this great variety of systems around the world and consider the ways that economic development, citizens' collective action and contentious politics, ideology, culture and identities are shaped by and shape the political communities and institutions within which they operate. This course will help you understand the working of power in political communities in your own country and across the globe. Satisfies: Goal 4 Outcome 2 (AE42) , Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS)
