Catalog description

Fourth year medical students will be assigned to a local family planning and abortion clinic. Students will be exposed to comprehensive family planning health care including counseling on pregnancy options, medical and surgical abortion, emergency contraception, and testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. Students will gain an understanding of the barriers patients face when seeking family planning services as well as the process of caring for patients with complex medical and social situations. Students will be evaluated by faculty judgment for general information, and degree of attainment of relevant skills necessary for matriculation into the intern year. Prerequisite: OBGN 975.
