Catalog description

The medical student participates as an intern, functioning in the clinics and the neurology inpatient services as an integral part of the health care team. Emphasis will be on the principles of patient care, neurological exam skills, and interpretation of findings and neuroanatomic correlation. The student will be expected to carry out complete, detailed examinations of patients and assume responsibility for assisting in all phases of the patient's diagnostic evaluation and care. During this elective, the student will participate actively in all teaching conferences held at KUMC. This selective is entirely clinical. Students will work on the neurology inpatient services and have the opportunity to spend time in a neurology subspecialty clinic. In exceptional cases, by prior arrangement and if an opening is available, a student may split time between neurology services at KUMC and the Kansas City VAMC. Prerequisite: NEUR 931.
