Mathematics - Advanced Calculus

Catalog description

This course provides students with a rigorous development of single-variable calculus, including convergence of sequences and series, limits and continuity of functions, differentiation, the Riemann integral, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. Emphasis is placed on proof-writing, abstraction, and logical structure, core skills for any mathematics major. Students will integrate and synthesize ideas from previous coursework such as calculus, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics, gaining a deeper, more connected understanding of mathematics. Through a capstone report and theoretical exploration, the course strengthens students’ ability to reason and communicate rigorously, preparing them for advanced study in mathematics and related fields. Students are strongly encouraged to complete at least one MATH course numbered 450 or above prior to enrolling in MATH 600. Prerequisite: MATH 127 or MATH 147, and MATH 290 or MATH 291.
