Through the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments, this course provides an in-depth examination of the balance of individual rights with law enforcement interests in investigating alleged criminal conduct. Utilizing landmark Supreme Court cases, students study Fourth Amendment law on search and seizure, probable cause, warrants, exceptions to the warrant requirement, and the exclusionary rule. The course also analyzes the legal framework surrounding confessions and self-incrimination as provided in the Fifth and Sixth Amendments. All topics covered in the course are topics assessed on the bar exam.
