This course takes an approach to interpreting life on the planet from a very different point of view than we experience, a microscopic one. The course focuses on the structure and function of prokaryotic cells and viruses with a heavy emphasis on bacteria. Topics include identification and organization of microbes, bacterial growth and sanitation, basic immunology, infectious disease, and epidemiology. Prerequisite: One biology course; one chemistry course.
