Catalog description

The course is a continuation of HNDI 120. It aims to further develop communicative skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—in Hindi, as well as intercultural competence. The course prepares learners to communicate with speakers of both Hindi and Urdu—sister languages collectively known as Hindustani—and to interpret, compare, and contrast aspects of life and culture in India/South Asia and the United States. The students will develop the ability to understand and produce short spoken, written, and multimedia texts on topics within familiar contexts. Supplementary resources will be provided to those interested in further enhancing their linguistic skills in Urdu. Prerequisite: HNDI 120 or placement exam that establishes a level of proficiency in Hindi suited to Intermediate Hindi I. Satisfies: Foreign Language 3rd Level (F3)
