Film and Media Studies - Latin American Cinema

Catalog description

In this course we will examine the cinemas from a range of Latin American countries to explore similar themes and differences between them historically, politically, and culturally. Themes will include: representation of gender, ethnic and national identities; civil wars and political changes; local, regional and global cinema interactions; countercultures and migrations. Along with themes, we will analyze narrative cinematic styles and modes of production. Most films will be feature-length narrative, but a few documentaries will be shown. May be taken as FMS 716, but with additional requirements. Satisfies: Goal 4 Outcome 2 (AE42) , Global Culture (GLBC)
