University of Kansas · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Effective communication is essential for success in workplace and academic settings. In order to communicate effectively, writers must be able to navigate and respond to a variety of writing situations with clear, concise, and appropriate language, as well as effective organization, design, and formatting. In this course, students prepare for professional contexts by producing and revising writing in a variety of genres, including emails, letters, proposals, and memos. This course also asks students to critically explore professional writing conventions and audience expectations. Given the collaborative nature of professional settings, students will work together to identify and practice communication strategies across rhetorical situations, including presentations, meetings, and interviews. Prerequisite: ENGL 101 and ENGL 102, or their equivalent. Satisfies: Arts and Humanities (AH)
