Economics - Health Economics

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the subfield of health economics and exposes students to both theory and applied forms of health economics. The course applies the principles of microeconomics to a market that is characterized by asymmetric information and adverse selection, the healthcare sector. Discussed topics include the health production function, the demand for medical care, the supply of healthcare labor, health insurance, hospitals, medical malpractice, and inequalities within the healthcare system. Prerequisite: ECON 142 or ECON 143.
