Using big ideas as conceptual anchors and disciplinary practices as skill anchors is an effective and powerful way to guide learners to make sense of and organize the seemingly disparate facts and formulas presented in school texts, to cultivate their capacity to think like a scientist and mathematician. This competency equips you to see through the lens of backwards design, and gain the skills to analyze a learning unit, to identify the relationship between big ideas, state and national standards and unit learning goals, and how student progress towards those goals is facilitated by well-designed learning experiences. Domain B: Designing for Deeper Learning. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor and concurrent enrollment in CT-C 742.
