This course examines corruption within all aspects of the criminal justice system. Using case studies of notorious incidents involving public servants’ malfeasance, students will analyze the causes and consequences of misconduct in policing, courts, and corrections. Students will compare the behaviors that ultimately undermine public trust. Topics include biased policing, evidence tampering, bribery, and perjury. By evaluating these real-world examples of corruption, students will understand the relationship between preventing a culture of corruption and promoting integrity.
