Catalog description

In a diverse world, communication plays a central role in both creating and sustaining cultural norms, values, and beliefs. However, diversity is not universally valued, and difference leads to unequal institutions, systems, and policies, including discrimination, oppression, and ethnocentrism. In this course, students will reflect on current cultural diversity topics and critically interrogate communication's role in structuring identities and difference across socio-cultural contexts. Satisfies: Goal 4 Outcome 1 (AE41) , US Culture (USC)
